What Are Boss Fish?

Boss fish are oversized, high-value catches that spawn in late-game, extinct-rarity, and Sci-Fi waters in BE A FISH BAIT. They carry higher base sell prices, stronger aquarium per-second income, and exclusive access to the Champion mutation — a Special-tier roll that normal species cannot obtain on their own. The Sci-Fi Update added Voidfin Shark as the newest named boss.

You identify boss fish by larger models, unique HUD labels, or longer reel minigames compared to standard catches in the same zone. They are not guaranteed every cast; Power, rod tier, and zone depth all influence how often they bite.

Champion Mutation (30% on Boss Fish)

Champion is a Special mutation with a 3x earning multiplier. It only appears on boss fish. Every boss hook has roughly a 30% chance to roll Champion on top of whatever Normal mutation — if any — the catch already carries.

Champion stacks with one Normal mutation (Gold through Radioactive) and with Delulu when you hook during Delulu weather. That stacking is how players chase the Radioactive × Delulu × Champion peak earner documented in the Delulu update.

Where to Find Boss Fish

Extinct zones remain the primary boss farm after mid-game rebirth progress and rod upgrades. The Sci-Fi Zone is the new ceiling for named bosses, with Voidfin Shark listed in official patch notes. Train Power with weights (including the Sci-Fi Training Weight), rebirth toward 11, and follow the rod upgrade priority guide until your cast range reaches those pools.

Pair extinct sessions with mutation-luck auras (Yinyang, Voidspore), Glitched or Delulu weather when active, and aquarium income from prior runs so you can afford weights between trips.

Boss Fishing Strategy

Session loop: claim daily rewards and codes → equip best mutation auras → enter extinct zone during favorable weather → store every mutated boss in the aquarium → reinvest cash into Power and rods. Never sell a Champion or Radioactive boss unless you need emergency upgrade cash.
