What Are Mutations?

Mutations are rare variants of normal fish in BE A FISH BAIT. When a mutation procs on catch, the fish gains a distinct visual overlay — glowing scales, altered colors, particle trails — and a multiplied sell and aquarium value. Mutations transform a decent catch into a tank cornerstone.

Every species in the game can theoretically mutate, but odds vary by zone rarity and aura bonuses. Mutations are per individual fish, not account-wide unlocks. You cannot apply a mutation after catch; you must fish it or trade for it if the game enables trading in future updates.

How to Get Mutations

Base mutation chance is low. Increase odds with mutation auras from the wheel — Yinyang and Voidspore are community-reported top picks for mutation luck — VIP training luck buffs if available, and fishing in higher-tier zones where rare species already have premium base values.

Glitched weather adds roughly +10% chance for Glitched mutation catches. Delulu weather enables the Delulu special mutation on eligible catches. Watch for small pop-up buttons when you cast — tapping them before they vanish raises your odds for specific mutation rolls.

Delulu and Champion mutations can stack as secondary mutations on a fish that already carries a primary Normal mutation; the highest reported combo is Radioactive × Delulu × Champion on boss fish during Delulu weather.

Codes do not directly grant mutations, but reroll codes help you land mutation chance auras. 2500CCU's three rerolls are ideal for gambling into a mutation aura before a dedicated farm session.

All Eight Mutation Types

The Delulu update roster includes eight mutations with fixed earning multipliers. Radioactive at 8x is the best single mutation for aquarium income.

Value and Aquarium Strategy

Mutated fish belong in the aquarium unless you need emergency cash for a rod breakpoint. The passive multiplier compounds daily. Replace normal tank residents when a mutated version of the same species arrives.

Mutations interact with sell value auras multiplicatively, not additively. A 2x mutation on a fish with a 1.5x sell aura can approach 3x total on that catch — exact math depends on how VoidDeckStudios stacks buffs in the current patch.
